As our very first blog post we wanted to give a few tips on what’s important when implementing SEO into your business. When you are first starting on your SEO journey, these things are essential to keep in mind.
1.) Have a Website
It’s kind of obvious but without a website, SEO doesn’t exist. The very first thing you absolutely need to get your business found online is to have a website.
2.) Be Useful to Your Customers
The next thing is to make sure that once people start finding you online, that they have a good experience and stay on your page. SEO is worth nothing if it doesn’t get you any customers, and if you get to number one for a search on google and people always click off of your site and go somewhere else, you will be taken off of the top, no matter how good your SEO is.
3.) Produce Awesome Content
If you can produce content that is both keyword rich, and compelling to read it will help you both ways. First the content itself will be relevant to the searches your potential customers are making. Also if people love your content, they will be more likely to use your services and more likely to share your content with others.
4.) Use Words People Use
When you are writing anything for your website, whether it be copy, an article, a social media post, use the words that your potential customers would use. If your content is full of terms that you understand and use every day, but are foreign to them, that will hurt your page rank and user experience on your website.
5.) Produce New Content
Simply put older content isn’t going to rank as high as new content. Search engines are trying to put the most relevant, up to date content on the top of the results. Also if you are putting out new content on a regular basis you have more content linking to your website, people have more opportunity to find you, and more content means that you have more chances to keep potential customers on your site.
6.) Use Video on Your Site
Video has many uses for SEO.
- Video is the highest rated content by search engines.
- Video keeps customers on your site longer, which improves conversion rate and page rank.
- Adding a transcript or caption to your video adds content to your page, spiders cannot crawl your audio on your videos but they can crawl you captions.
7.)Let Your Personality Shine
Nothing will get you more reputation, reviews, shares, likes, comments, links, etc. than your personality. When someone becomes attached to a company, they naturally do the things that will increase your online presence. Nothing wins over a business that people like!
From these tips I believe it has become clear that focusing on customers is a very large part of online marketing and SEO. At the end of the day the only reason you are doing SEO is to get more business, so user experience should always be on your mind. I didn’t cover backlinks, or testing, or conversion data because all of those things can only become more effective once you have these basics down. Once these tips are put into practice, you can really tackle SEO head on and get all of your hard work to pay off.
