The Top 5 Problems with Your Business’ Social Media
There are plenty of problems and reasons that your social media is not working for your business. Many people complain that they are not seeing any return on investment (ROI) with their social media spending. If you are making one or more of these five mistakes, then you can identify the problem and use one our recommended solutions.
Problem 1: You don’t have any Social Pages – whatsoever
Let me tell you a story. I own a small seasoning company and I was looking for the company that I buy packaging from. I Googled the company, found their website and …. Nothing. They have an error with their website page! I look up the same company and find they have a Facebook page, again, nothing. I thought they went out of business!! Then I try their phone… again… Nothing and straight to a voicemail. I was freaking out, so I drove down to their business and to my surprise… They’re open. I order my product with the salesman. Now many of you are saying why didn’t you buy somewhere else online? Two reasons: I like to buy local and this company has always had good quality and service.
Solution: For this business and your business is get your business on the social web. Choose which social media outlets fit for your industry and post weekly or monthly. Also, if you have a website and you’re paying for that domain name, make sure it’s active.
Problem 2: Your Content is Irrelevant
Solution: This is an easy solve. Start creating content that you’re followers want to see and will have the most interaction with. If your page is about health and fitness talk about health and fitness. However, feel free to branch out. For example, I do the marketing for a supplement company. I can’t always be posting about their supplements, but I can talk about health, healthy eating, and exercise. This solution also leads into my next problem…
Problem 3: You are only Focused on the Sell
Solution: Stop selling. Stop putting ‘buy this’ or ‘buy that’. It’s a turnoff for customers. Again, these are social websites that are meant for interaction. If your posts are only about advertising your product and you’re only focused on the sale, people won’t follow you back and will even more likely NOT buy your product.
Problem 4: You Sit There and Wait
Solution: Social media is used as a way to interact with your customers. If your sole goal is to only ‘advertise’ then you are doing it wrong and should probably look at TV or radio ads. Social media is a great way for a business to interact with customers by listening to complaints, complimenting customers on their use of your product, and controlling the branded image you want customers to see. Imagine your social pages as your businesses brick-and-mortar, you wouldn’t ignore or not greet customers, or else you’d be labeled as a bad customer service provider. Social media should be about conversation and really just a less intimidating way for customers to interact with you.
Problem 5: You are Choosing too Broad of a Demographic
Solution: Look at the people that are following your accounts. Just stop trying to reach the whole world, because the whole world doesn’t like, want, or need your product or service. You’re wasting money by NOT targeting your demographic. We will be blogging more about choosing your demographic in the coming weeks, but for starters, choose a few people that are acting on your page. Do a little stalking and find out what other things they like. You’re going to use this information to reach out to other similar customers.
