Get Organized

First and foremost, get everything setup from the get go. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and others should have the same (if possible) usernames for easy platform crossover. Use one central email for your social media. Utilize one main person and email as administrator. Plan your posts ahead of time, and schedule them to be released in correlation with your viewers browsing habits.

Commit to Good Content

There’s good content and bad content. Good content is visually stimulating and engages the browser, drawing them in. Bad content usually consists of a sales pitch at the bottom or the article is just rehashing things you already know. Good content should take the consumer and move them to action. Make graphics that are visually appealing with stock photos from Shutter Stock or iStockPhoto. The best content usually features an entire story and you don’t know who the brand is until the very end.

Put Someone in Charge

Social media is not the average 9 to 5. Looking at the analytics of most social outlets, you will see that the busiest time is at night and on the weekends. Content consumers will be viewing your posts at all odd hours and messaging a business at those abnormal hours as well.

Hire a social media manager that has no problem answering a message at 7:30 PM (after shift hours). Consumers use social media as the place to get quick answers to their inquiries and there should be someone to give quick answers.

Choose which social media outlets to focus

Review what social outlets you should be on. We review this topic in full in a previous post, but the jist you should get from it is this: just because it’s there, doesn’t mean you should be using it. Don’t waste your time with an outlet that isn’t needed for your target audience.

Be Consistent

We are consistently talking about the importance of releasing a stream of posts that are relatable and can all be intertwined together. Not saying you should post the same topic 5 times, but your topics should be related. For example, our company is digital marketing. Our topics include ‘Meta Data: Implementing the Best Practices‘, ‘Checklist for Hiring a Production Company‘, or ‘Top 5 Problems with Your Business’ Social Media‘. Your social media posts should be correlated with your business.

Final Note on Social Media Marketing

‘Social’ is the keyword here. As managers of several brands, we are embarrassed or hysterically laughing at the robotic comments we get on posts. For example, a blogger looking to gain followers wrote ”adorable”on a health post about “The 5 Best Tips to Get Back on Track”. Keeping posts, comments, shares, and likes authentic will be what separates your brand from the next.

University of Utah: Lab Safety All Stars

We’ve all been there. First day of school at the University of Utah , the lights are dimmed and your TA rolls out a TV. They tell you to take out a pencil and paper to take notes for the test you will have immediately after. The video is inserted in the VCR and you will begin to waste 20 educational minutes learning about the safety precautions of the science building. You watch the safety video that was made before Bill Nye the Science Guy. The hair, the glasses, the wardrobe are nothing but depictions of the poor taste your parents had in the 80’s and their monotone voices make it easy to tune out. However, the University of Utah won’t have any of that, not anymore.

Rule #1 Making Your Video more Visually Appealing

Updated videos should be attractive. Not just the lighting, but the visuals. Capture your audience’s attention with happy, smiling models or students by compensating them with extra credit, Yummy pizza from the Pie Pizzeria.

Another great way to make your compelling video more interesting is by adding B-roll footage. Taking the time to capture images of surroundings and the subject matter being spoken about in the video will be valuable in editing and also ensures your video will be more interesting. Having the highest valuable production is important to every business. Mixing up the interview with great B-roll in your video will not only capture your viewer’s attention, but also keep them interested.

Rule #2 Don’t Pre-Prepare for Your Interview

It is difficult to look natural when you are looking up into your head trying to remember the lines you so meticulously memorized to be sure you occur as natural self.

To be authentic, don’t have any type of memorized script. Come to your shoot ready to relax, have fun, and respond to questions the director will ask you.

Rule #3 Do Prepare with a General Outline

It’s always a good idea to have a general bullet point list of items you want to cover. Our Director and Producer at Levitate, will feed you the lines and have you convey a similar message. The University of Utah students did a great job portraying their commitment to a healthy and safe environment in their school labs.

Not only does this help the actors or interviewees involved, but this insures a smooth and easy flow of directing and making sure that all material is covered.

Rule #4 Smile, Be Friendly, Be Yourself

Don’t try to be something that you’re not. You will never be Leonardo Dicaprio, not even Leonardo DiCaprio, but you can be Lenny DeCapria. It’s a lot easier to capture your personality and make an interesting video when you’re being yourself.

We were super excited to assist the Occupational  Environmental Health and Safety Department at the University of Utah in increasing their brand value and creating content consistent with their new image! We had a lot of fun creating the safety videos for incoming lab students. Just like updating your technology, it’s important that you’re keeping up to date with informational videos that you have for your business or even simplifying this information in video format. Forget about big brother, let’s talk about aerial footage. There’s no doubt that drone filming is a growing trend with filmmakers. Aerial footage offers a lot of production value and gives a new perspective to viewers. Producers are taking advantage of the possibilities that drones offer and for good reason.

Aerial footage provides a higher production value and is much more cinematic. Before, most businesses  weren’t able to get this type of footage simply from a cost factor. Nowadays, it’s a lot more cost effective depending on what equipment is being used and the amount of filming involved. You can do 10-15 takes with an aerial drone (using only one 28 minute battery) or 3-5 takes with the same allotted time with the standard film equipment. This gives you more options and flexibility for editing at the fraction of the cost and time. The benefits of filming with a drone you’re getting shots that would’ve been very difficult before.

These smalls drones are able to get a lot of angles and get intricate filming that would’ve been a big setup for most producers. Production companies would have to rent large equipment like dollies, cranes, or jib arms, to get the same intricate and smooth footage that a drone can. Simplifying this process for these shots filmmakers and producers are getting more bang for their buck.

“Filming with drones takes some practice. It’s not hard, but if you’re flying to film and to get good footage,  it takes a lot of practice. You can learn to just fly a drone, but to learn to fly it well for filming is more difficult and time consuming” says Zak Stradley our aerial videographer here at Levitate.
